Summary: This KB Article walks you through the SRS Registration process, guidelines for DDVE registration with SRS . Exclude/Skip Protection Storage(DDVE) from SRS registration for IDPA DP4400

Issue
Protection Storage or Data Domain SRS Registration can be skipped for DP4400 appliances.

Cause
Due to the current workflow and method being used internally by DDVE (Protection Storage) to register itself with SRS, it has been found that it registers itself to SRS using the iSWID (Instance software-id) which is not tied to Hardware serial. The eSWID contains the entitlement and is tied to the hardware serial number (and hence the siteID of the appliance). Currently, iSWID is not written into the Install Base (IB).
This may cause the DDVE on the IDPA DP4400 appliance to be registered with SRS using incorrect Site-ID.

Resolution

Exclude/Skip Protection Storage(DDVE) from SRS registration for IDPA DP4400

Note: This would mean the Protection Storage(DDVE) would only be able to send email alerts using the configured SMTP mail server. There will not be any Service Requests generated for Protection Storage component as iSWID will not be in the Install Base. Support can however use the hardware serial number to view the alerts on ASUP viewer.

Steps to be executed on DP4400 Systems:

1. Skip the SRS Registration for DDVE (Protection Storage).

The Protection Storage dashboard will show status "Unconfigured" for Secure Remote Services.

2. Exact steps to configure SMTP for ASUP alerts; and setting support notification method as email.
By default, mail is the method used to send event message (ASUP/alert) to DELL/EMC Support. How to configure email server is listed in DDOS admin manual.
* Refer User Guide Link on Page 125, section "Configuring mail server settings"

Additionally:
* Follow Section "Autosupport report management" on Page 135: User Guide Link
* Follow Section "Alert notification management" on Page 140: User Guide Link
* Follow Section "Selecting standard email delivery to Data Domain" on Page 147: User Guide Link
* If mail server authentication is required, please refer to the KB article: KB 539730

Note: Unfortunately, support for STARTTLS is not included in the DDOS 6.2-629757

3. On the Data Domain, cleanup steps to un register DDVEs that have already been registered with SRS (Steps 3 and 4 should only be followed if Data Domain part of IDPA DP4400 is already registered with SRS)
Run the following command which will clean up the SRS related configuration and reset the support notification method back to  email .

4. As a last step, the ACM ESRS Configuration file should be updated. Please contact IDPA Support and refer this article to complete this step.
